Important update 3/23/2020

Dear Gryphon Families,

We hope that our message finds you well and healthy!

We want to say how thankful and proud we are that our students and their families have stepped up to make this transition to online schooling work! We know that challenges will arise, and we continue to encourage students and their parents to reach out to us. The TJ Team is willing and ready to assist in any way that we can help!

Here are a few reminders/updates:

Schools Closed Until May15th: Governor Cooper announced this morning that schools will remain closed at least until May 15th. We are confident that we can continue our online schooling with great effectiveness with everyone working together!

Grammar School Update: Our plan is to offer one last pick up date for materials on Thursday, March 26th from noon until 6pm.  Your child’s teacher will inform you if there are any materials you need to pick up on this date. Grammar school teachers will continue to reach out on a weekly basis. Please continue to monitor the emails for directions and lessons. If it is necessary for you to pick up materials for your child, please know that it will be done via our grammar school carline.  Due to the social distancing recommendations, please do not park and walk to the pick up area. We will try to make this process as efficient as possible. If we receive a shelter-in-place mandate from the state and materials can not be picked up at the grammar school on March 26th, teachers will provide grammar lessons and materials online either by email, teacher webpages, Google Classroom, Class Dojo, YouTube videos, etc. Some grammar school teachers are already providing everything your child needs online. If you have technology needs in your home, please complete the request form in the next section.  We want to assist you with those needs.

School Lunches Are Available for All Students: Parents/Students may pick up lunches for anyone ages 0-18 at their nearest, public school location across North Carolina. There is no identification needed and students do not have to be present!

General Technology Needs: Please complete this form for any technology needs or help requests that may arise: Parent Technology Support Request. We are committed to ensuring that every child has what he/she needs for online instruction, so we kindly ask that parents make us fully aware of any needs. You may also call us at (828) 657 – 9998.

Building Access: If you need access to the grammar campus, please call the grammar school office at (828) 245 – 9526. If you need access to one of the buildings at the upper campus, please call (828) 657 – 9998. At this time, the buildings are still open from 9-3 if you need to pick up books or other materials, but we do ask that you call before you come.

Spring Break: We will keep our Spring Break as previously scheduled. We will be on break from April 2nd through April 12th. Online instruction will resume on April 13th.

State Testing: The State Board of Education has applied to the federal government to ask for a waiver of all state testing. The federal government invited states to do this, so we fully expect that we will not have any state testing this year.

AP Testing: College Board has announced that students will be able to take shortened tests online at home. We will send out further instructions and details to students as we know them.

Admission Lottery: We still plan to conduct our lottery on March 30th, but it will be conducted virtually. We are still working on the logistics, but we will send out additional details in the coming days.

Other Needs: If your family has any other needs (needs for food, counseling, shelter) during this challenging time, please let us know. We are committed to help our families in any way that we can.

Administrators, teachers, and teacher assistants are available every day via email or phone. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any concerns or questions.

Take care, everyone!
