Eight Receive Burgundy&Gold Scholarships

Eight graduating seniors from the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy’s Class of 2018 were awarded Burgundy and Gold Scholarships at an awards ceremony on May 29, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Forest City, NC.

The Burgundy and Gold Scholarship Committee was formed in 2011 to help TJCA students further their education at the college level.  Our mission is to help students achieve their career goals and encourage personal and academic achievement. This year, the committee awarded $28,000 to eight students of the class of 2018.  All scholarships are given for the first year of college. The awards are:\

The Burgundy and Gold Scholarship is a $5000 award given to a student who exhibits self motivation, a passion for learning and a desire to succeed.  Also considered are strong character, leadership, commitment to school, and community involvement. This year’s recipient is Carter Plaster of Shelby, NC.

The Dr. Bertram Ross Memorial Scholarship is a $3000 award given to the student focused on STEM studies.  Candidates should be well rounded, hard workers and dedicated in areas of involvement. The recipient is Michael Hess of Shelby, NC.

The $3000 Courage Scholarship is given to the student who has demonstrated moral and mental strength, integrity and perseverance in dealing with the challenges of life.  The recipient is Audrey Colnot of Rutherfordton, NC.

The $5000 Legacy Scholarship is funded by the Show the Love fundraiser and the TJCA Parent Forum.  It is given to a student who will leave a legacy of love and unity among the TJCA student body. The recipient is Kaitlin Byrd of Shelby, NC.

The Gryphon Athletic Scholarship for $3000 is awarded to a student athlete who demonstrates determination, excellence, and leadership in sports and is well rounded.  The recipient is Matthew Martin of Rutherfordton, NC.

The $3000 Ella Randolph Memorial Scholarship is given to honor Ella’s compassionate spirit and use of her talents to help others.  This year’s winner uses her passion to guide others towards success. The recipient is Cameron Sabolovic of Rutherfordton, NC.

The $3000 Fine Arts Scholarship is given to a student who demonstrates a dedication to the fine arts. The recipient is Skylar Murphy of Bostic, NC.

The Shay Birchfiled Memorial Scholarship for $3000 is given to a soccer player who embodies Shay’s deep love of the game and of the TJCA soccer program.  The recipient is Christina Maimone of Green Hill, NC.
