Mentors, Backpack Food and School Supplies

Together Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy and Communities in Schools of Rutherford County seek to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS works with public schools in Rutherford County as well as in partnership with many business, civic, social and faith based groups to provide volunteer mentors, school supplies, backpack food and more.

If an adult works directly with students as a volunteer, we will need them to complete a background check form. This form must be turned in to Mrs. Shumate at the high school office.

Parent Volunteers

We welcome and need parent volunteers!  If you have an hour to spare, let us know. If you have a particular talent, please share it with us. There are a variety of ways that parents may volunteer their time and talent at our grammar and middle/high school campuses:

  • In the regular classrooms (contact your child’s teacher directly)
  • Media Center – (logging in books, reshelving books)
  • Art Studio: assist in cleaning, organizing and preparation of materials, website gallery maintenance: uploading photos etc., maintaining school bulletin boards for art displays.
  • Fall Festival (many areas-inquire early for your preferred choice)
  • Field Day
  • Book Fair
  • Renaissance Festival (March)
  • Grant writing (Many opportunities!)
  • Data Entry (grocery cards, directory, etc.)
  • Other
